What’s the best Gun for Girls?

P365-XL ROSE COMP by Sig Sauer

First things first, there is no such thing.

There is no such thing as a "girl gun". Sig Sauer does not manufacture gender-specific firearms. No firearm manufacturer does. At best, they might coat it in pink or purple paint before boxing it up so that the firearm visually appeals to the ladies a bit more. However, that's just a sales tactic. That does not mean little pink and purple guns are the best or only options for women.

Purchasing a firearm is a highly personal and subjective decision. There are a number of different factors to consider aside from the visual aspects like color.

In making your purchasing decisions, consider the following:

  • What do you want to use the firearm for? If you plan to use the firearm for concealed carry, compact or subcompact may indeed be the way to go. However, this also depends on your body type and the way you dress! Even if you're 125 pounds on a bad day, if you prefer oversized clothing then you can still conceal a full-sized firearm the same as you could a compact one. On the flip side, if you're curvy and usually wear clothing that accentuates those curves, compact might be better as the smaller frame can be hidden more easily with less protruding bulk.

  • Get a feel for the firearm. If it's your first purchase, refrain from buying online. You need to physically hold the firearm in your hand. With one hand comfortably holding the grip of the gun, can you reach the trigger? Can you press the magazine release? Now try pulling back the slide. Is this easy to do, or are you having a hard time? The last thing you want to do in a self-defense situation is struggle to make-ready your means of protection. Be sure you can grip the gun, press the buttons and move all the parts easily before committing to buy.

  • What caliber is the firearm? As soon as they see a lady, salespeople immediately try to sell them a .22, a .380 or a revolver. Why? Because they are small. However, smaller does not always mean easier and none of these are likely what's best for you. Not only that, .380 ammunition can be more expensive and harder to find than other calibers. Don't let anyone set you up for failure.

In summation, sis, you can shoot any gun you want! Just ask yourself is it comfortable and manageable to YOU.

Now, there are certain brands of firearms that are better than others. You don't want to cheapskate when it comes to purchasing a firearm. Hi-Points may only be $200 but they're known for their unreliability. "Unreliable" has no place in a life or death situation, which is likely what any instance where you have to draw your firearm will be.

Personally, I am a fan of Canik (Century Arms) and their firearms have consistently delivered reliability, accuracy and efficiency for me. Some other notable brands are CZ, Glock, Sig Sauer, Smith and Wesson, and Springfield Armory.

Remember to always do your research online before purchasing. If you see a firearm you like, step away from the counter for a quick second and Google it. Simply type in, for example, "Sig Sauer P365 reviews" in Google or even YouTube. This gives you an idea of what other shooters thought of the firearm if you're a new shooter, which can help you make a more informed decision.

Anyway, this blog ended up being a lot lengthier than I expected! But I hope this information at least helped you find a good starting place in your hunt for a new "girl gun"! :)
